She underwent surgery on 29 November and is expected to make a full recovery for the 2019 season.

She wrote on Twitter: ‘It is with utmost disappointment that I say I have ruptured my Achilles. I will be undergoing surgery tomorrow & out for the season. Tiger fans, I can promise you I will work my tail off be the best person, student and athlete for this school. Geaux Tigers & Forever LSU.’

Despite the disappointment, on Instagram McKenna showed her positive attitude, writing: ‘His plan, not mine. Here’s to the next chapter!⭐️’.

Head coach D-D Breaux also commented on the injury: ‘McKenna was at the top of her gymnastics and has really worked hard to be the anchor and make the vault lineup. In a year when we are replacing a great senior class she will be missed. She is the spirit and emotional leader of our team. It is now a time for us to develop addition depth and see who will step up and carry the LSU flag.’
