Katelyn Fandrich of Sparkle City Gymnastics has committed to the University of Alaska Anchorage for the 2018-19 season.
She wrote on Twitter: ‘[I] can’t wait to be in [A]laska for the next four years. [T]he BEST trip.’
Her gym added on Facebook: ‘So proud of one of our gymnasts, Katelyn Fandrich, for accepting a FULL SCHOLARSHIP to the University of Alaska Anchorage. Katelyn will be a great contributor to the Division I line-up! Go Kate!!’
Fandrich has had a very long Level 10 career, beginning in 2013. Since then, she has competed at four South Carolina State Championships and four Region 8 Championships. In 2014, she won a gold medal on beam and was fifth in the all around at the State Championships, and was thirty-third in the all around at Regionals. In 2015, she won silver medals on bars and floor, and was seventh in the all around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she tied for thirteenth on floor and was thirty-fifth in the all around. In 2016, she had an even better competition at the State Championships, winning medals on all events: silver medals on vault, bars and floor, and bronze medals on beam and in the all around. At Regionals, she was tenth on bars and seventeenth in the all around. In 2017, she again won several bronze medals at the State Championships – on vault (tied), bars, floor and in the all around. She ended her season at the Region 8 Championships, where she tied for eighth on vault, for ninth on floor and was eighteenth in the all around. Fandrich had an outstanding meet at the 2017 Sparkle City Invitational, where she won gold medals on all four events and in the all around.
