Phoebe Jakubczyk, who is a member of Great Britain’s junior national team and trains at The Academy, has committed to Oregon State for the 2021-22 season.
Jakubczyk, who is turning senior in 2019, had a fantastic competition at the 2017 English Championships. She won silver medals in the all around, on bars and floor (both tied), and was fourth on vault. Jakubczyk also competed at the 2017 British Championships. There, she was fifth in the all around, sixth on floor exercise and seventh on the uneven bars.
Jakubczyk is only the last Brit to commit to an American university. Other successful British gymnasts in the NCAA include Olympian Ruby Harrold, who is a sophomore at LSU, NCAA balance beam champion Danusia Francis, who graduated from UCLA in 2016, and NCAA vault champion Marissa King, who graduated from Florida in 2013, and helped the Gators win their first ever NCAA title.
