Rylie Johnstone of Midland Gymnastics Training Center has committed to the University of Illinois at Chicago for the 2018-19 season.
Johnstone began competing as a Level 10 gymnast in December 2014 at the Gymnastics On The Grand meet, where she won bronze on beam. In 2015, she was twelfth on beam and sixteenth in the all around at the Michigan State Championships. She qualified to the Region 5 Championships, where she was fourteenth on vault and beam and twenty-second in the all around. In 2016, she upped her game, finishing fourth in the all around and on floor (tied) at the State Championships, and ninth on bars and fourteenth in the all around at Regionals. In 2017, Johnstone tied for sixth in the all around, on vault and on beam at the State Championships. She finished her season at Regionals, where she tied for fifth place on floor and was tenth in the all around. Johnstone won a gold medal on vault at the 2017 Circle of Stars Gymnastics Invitational, and silver medals in the all around, bars and beam at Nashville Nights.
