Sterlyn Austin has committed to Western Michigan University for the 2018-19 season. She trained at Moultrie YMCA until 2016, and is currently training at Georgia Elite Gymnastics.

Austin began competing as a Level 10 gymnast in 2014, and since then, she has competed almost every year at the Georgia State and Region 8 Championships, improving year after year. In 2015 she was State silver medallist in the all around, on bars and beam, while in 2017 she was State champion on floor and bronze medallist on beam. In 2017, she also had her best Regional Championships to date, tying for bronze on floor, and finishing fifth on beam and twelfth in the all around. In her 2017 season, Austin also won gold on floor at Elevate the Stage, at the Pikes Peak Cup, and at the Made in the USA Gymnastics Invitational, where she also won the all around title.
